Tips For Managing Yourself

Strategies for Self-Care

In my training workshops, I talk about the vital importance of self-care. Leadership demands long hours and many responsibilities. As leaders, if you’re not taking care of yourself, you’re not going to be able to take care of your team.

Practicing self-care that focuses on your physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual health (PEMSS) is a way of acknowledging personal responsibility for your own well-being.

Physical – Dancing, walking, staying hydrated, eating balanced meals and managing your health

are all part of good physical self-care.?

Emotional – Be a servant leader to your team, repeating positive affirmations daily, setting yourself up to win by setting small goals, and gratitude journaling help promote emotional self-care.

Mental –Do things that keep your mind sharp, like journaling, reading a book, giving yourself a social media break, practicing self-compassion and acceptance, listening to an informative podcast, or learning about a subject that interests you. ?

Social –Stay connected by reaching out and calling your team members, spend time with people who are kind, compassionate, and loving, and join/attend virtual support group meetings.

Spiritual Daily devotions, solitude, silence, and scriptural meditation are a few activities that you can do to strengthen your spiritual self-care.

My call to action to you is to incorporate PEMSS self-care as part of your daily routine. Look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Am I the best version of myself?”
