Learning

Learning to relearn.

Learning may be one of the most complicated topics as leaders progress through their careers. For most, we think of learning as a point in time, as if the learning stops and we’ve acquired all there is to know. As I speak to CEO’s the one piece of advice shared among most is to always keep learning. Most do this by reading as many books as their schedule allows.

I personally was not a fan of reading for the longest time, but as time goes by I can’t get enough of it. I have found myself more and more engrossed in esoteric topics that all seem to give me new perspective that enables me to function better in my personal and professional life.

If we can all look at life as an opportunity to continue learning, then we open ourselves up to perpetually bringing in new perspective. This ability to take in new perspective enables us to evolve, grow and learn.

Within organizations, there is no difference. With the increasing pace of change in the world, ambiguity and uncertainty magnifies. Therefore, the learning has to be constant, evolving, and diverse. If you are looking for a place to begin, start by focusing on personal development and let that inspire you to branch out. Audiobooks are always good for those who prefer to listen.
